Making money online is everyone’s dream. But to convert these dreams into reality, we must have some online existence in the form of a website or a blog. And when we think about our blog niche, it should be profitable and have the ability to earn money. It becomes really difficult to monetize a blog which is created with no particular niche in mind. Before creating a blog, we must have its niche in our mind and the kind of monetization we will be doing with this blog. In today’s article, I’m going to introduce some free resource we can use to find a profitable niche to make money from our blogs. And when you visit these resources, you will know about many more profitable niches you were unaware about:

  1. Google Trends: Google Trends is the first place we should visit to find the hottest topics for the day. List of hot topics changes within every few minutes and by clicking any of hot topic, we get lot more information about that topic like:
    • Its search volume graph
    • Peak time
    • Latest news articles about that topic
    • Coverage in the blogsphere
    • Web results about that topic
  2. Lycos top 50 list: Lycos also offers top 50 list for this week which is updated every week.
  3. Yahoo Buzz: Yahoo buzz gives the list of top 10 searches which is updated hourly.
  4. Amazon and EBay: spend some time here on Amazon and EBay websites searching the terms you want to blog about. If you find some products available for the terms you searched, that niche is profitable. And if you see lots of products available for that term, your niche is highly profitable but highly competitive as well.
  5. Classified websites: search classified websites and newspapers for additional product and service ideas.
  6. Shopping.com top search list: Shopping.com has a list of top 100 searches that are updated after every two weeks. And for each search term, they have collection of around 5000 keywords related to that search term. So shopping.com is a must check website as they have lots of information about what people are actually searching to reach their targeted products.

  9. Dmoz open directory project: Dmoz is most trusted web directory used by all major search engines. Browse this directory to get a list of some of existing websites in any niche.
  10. Popular groups: spend some time on popular groups like Google Groups, Yahoo Groups, MSN groups and Myspace groups etc. Make search with keywords of your niche and go through the results carefully to get more valuable stuff about your niche.
  11. Discussion Forums: spend some time in discussion forums in your niche. Pick some popular forum in your niche with lots of users and when you have decided your niche, promote your blog on those discussion forums in your signature section.
