Twitter is nothing new. But it sure is the ‘new craze’. Everyone has a twitter account. Celebrities, bloggers, the president, you, and me. Being something different than most of the social sites out there makes most beginners get confused on how to use it. If you are ready to jump intoTwitter, but don’t know how to get started then this article may help you.
So this blog post will concentrate on a few tips for the new tweeters.
1. Use Those 140 Characters Effectively
You’re limited to 140 characters in every tweet. So use them effectively. Use shorthand codes (LOL, AFK, BRB, etc). There’s nothing wrong with using them ontwitter . And also do not post full URLs. Post shortened ones. Of course they automatically get shortened when posted, but while posting, they DO take up characters. So use sites like IS.GD to shorten your URLs.
2. Don’t Follow Every Jack and Jill
Those who primarily engage in twitter to market their blogs, will often be interested in increasing the number of followers they have. One of the often recommended ways of getting a good following is to follow every XYZ user in the hopes they’ll follow you back. Quite frankly… this is pointless. You’d rather have 100 followers who share your interests as opposed to 1000 followers who are uninteractive and not concerned.
3. Plain English, Please
Shorthand codes are just fine. But please don’t experiment with weird stuff every time and again. It tends to tick people off. Not every tweet of yours has to be a mystery and puzzle. Plain English does the task just as good!
4. Re-Tweet… With Thanks To Original Tweeter
Sure you can copy others’ tweets. But be ethical and credit them for it. So when you decide to copy someone’s tweet, do it with a @name (where ‘name’ is theirtwitter username) preceding the tweet.
5. Don’t Look Blindly… Search Instead
You can also search for your friends or specific twitter users (celebs, etc). Just use search.twitter.com.
6. Share Pictures On Twitter
Bet you weren’t aware of this, were you? . Using services such as twitpic.com you can upload and share pictures on your twitter account in your tweets. Sometimes, the pictures speak better than 140 characters would. Not to forget that they also add variety to your tweets every once in a while.
7. Model Successful Tweeters
Truth is, sometimes you need to look at the successful tweeters and see how they’re doing things. You don’t have to copy them in every aspect. Just look at them and how they do things. That should help you deduce where you’re probably going wrong and what you need to improve on.
Conclusion
Tweeting may seem very easy for everyone. But if you are using Twitter as a medium of marketing/promoting/making friends, then these tips as a Twitter Beginner will help you in it.
